         This webpage presents the May 10, 1887 Ashworth right-of-way deed to the Seattle Lake Shore and Eastern Railway (SLS&E). The granting clause, reservation, habendum, notary public and documentation that the SLS&E lawyers requested filing are transcribed below. These elements of the deed may be confirmed from the photocopy of the original recorded deed, which is provided below the transcription. Also, the other elements of the deed may be obtained from the photocopy.



Transcription of Significant Elements of the Ashworth Deed:

    Granting Clause: May 10, 1887 Ashworth right-of-way deed to the SLS&E

      "In consideration of the benefits and advantages to accrue to us from the location, construction and operation of the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway, in the County of King, in Washington Territory, we do hereby donate, grant, and convey unto the said Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway Company a right of way fifty (50) feet in width through our lands in said County described as follows, to wit:"

    Reservation of riparian and littoral rights (waterfront rights): May 10, 1887 Ashworth right-of-way deed to the SLS&E

      "And said grantors hereby expressly reserve to themselves their heirs and assigns forever all their riparian and littoral rights, and all their rights as water front proprietors."

    Habendum: May 10, 1887 Ashworth right-of-way deed to the SLS&E

      "To Have and to Hold the said premises, with the appurtenances unto the said Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway Company and to its successors and assigns forever."
